Set up this practice test like the exam
Marathi runs on Remington by default, with InScript as an option, and every passage is cut to 300 words (English 400). Keep No highlighter on. Our Remington keyboard is the Hindi Remington GAIL table - a few Marathi-only keys are still being checked against the official Remington Marathi layout, so treat a key that feels wrong as a report, not a habit.
Practise the 10-minute test
Take the Marathi or English test and see your key-stroke speed, every error and whether you stayed inside the 7% limit.
How speed and errors are checked
Two separate checks. Both must pass.
| Check | Marathi | English |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | 1,500 key strokes in 10 min = 30 WPM | 2,000 key strokes in 10 min = 40 WPM |
| Error limit | 7% of 300 words = 21 errors | 7% of 400 words = 28 errors |
| Errors counted | Omission, addition, transposition, substitution, repetition | Same, plus capital-letter slips |
Worked example: a Marathi attempt that qualifies
Speed = key strokes / 5 / 10 minutes
Error limit = 7% of the words given
- Passage
- 300 words, 10 minutes
- Key strokes
- 1,620
- Errors
- 18
- Speed1,620 / 5 / 10= 32.4 WPM
- Speed check32.4 against 30= clears
- Error limit7% of 300= 21
- Error check18 against 21= clears
TipFour more errors would fail it even at the same speed: the error limit does not grow with your speed.
The mistake that fails most candidates
Chasing speed in Marathi. On Remington a single wrong matra or half letter makes the word an error, and 21 errors arrive quickly at 35 WPM. Aim for 33 WPM with fewer than 12 errors and use backspace the moment you see a slip.
A four-week preparation plan
Four weeks to a safe margin above 30 WPM with few errors.
| Week | Focus | Marathi target | Errors in 10 min |
|---|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | Remington key positions, half letters completed with K. | 18 WPM | Any |
| Week 2 | Matras, conjuncts and the Marathi letter La. | 24 WPM | Under 30 |
| Week 3 | Full 10-minute tests, no highlighter. | 30 WPM | Under 20 |
| Week 4 | Daily full tests; fix every slip at once. | 33+ WPM | Under 12 |
