01About this test

RSSB LDC / Junior Assistant Phase II typing speed tests. Hindi and English are both compulsory, and each correct word earns marks.

02Rules

  1. 1Duration: 10 minutes per language. Hindi is typed first, then English.
  2. 2Hindi: 400-word passage, 0.0625 marks per correct word. English: 500-word passage, 0.05 marks per correct word.
  3. 3You need at least 9 of 25 marks in each paper: 144 correct words in Hindi, 180 in English.
  4. 4Wrong words earn nothing, but there is no negative marking.
  5. 5Once you press Space or Enter, the previous word is locked. Backspace works only inside the word you are typing.
  6. 6Hindi is typed in DevLys 010 (Remington keys). Alt, Ctrl and the function keys are disabled in the exam.

03How you are scored

Marks = correct words x 0.0625 (Hindi) or x 0.05 (English). Net speed = correct words / 10; 14.4 WPM Hindi or 18 WPM English = 9 marks.

04Important notes

  • Each language also has a 10-minute MS Word efficiency paper worth 25 marks, which this practice does not cover.
  • Typing is 100 of the 300 merit marks.

About the RSSB LDC typing test

Every correct word is worth marks - and one weak paper is enough to knock you out.

The Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSSB, formerly RSMSSB) recruits Clerk Grade II (LDC) and Junior Assistants across Rajasthan government departments. Candidates who clear the Phase I written exam move to Phase II: a computer test of four 10-minute papers - a speed test and an efficiency test in Hindi and in English.

The typing test is not just qualifying. Each paper is worth 25 marks, Phase II adds 100 marks to the 200 from Phase I, and you need at least 9 marks in every single paper. This page covers the two speed tests.

  2. Hindi speed + efficiency50 marks10 minutes of DevLys typing, then 10 minutes of MS Word tasks. 9 / 25 needed in each.

What the exam screen looks like

The rule that catches most candidates: you cannot go back once you press Space.

Screen ruleWhat to expect
BackspaceCurrent word only - Space or Enter locks the previous word
Alt, Ctrl, function keysDisabled
Word / error highlighterNot confirmed - practise without one
Submit earlyNo - the test runs the full 10 minutes
Hindi fontDevLys 010 - Remington keys, not InScript
OrderHindi papers first, then English

As reported from recent RSSB sittings by candidates and coaching platforms; the highlighting and scrolling behaviour is not confirmed in any notice. Follow the instructions on your test day.

Set up this practice test like the exam

This practice uses One-word backspace and No highlighter by default. Our one-word mode also lets you fix the word just before - the real screen does not - so treat every Space as final. Choose DevLys 010 as your Hindi layout; Kruti Dev uses the same keys if that is what you learned on. Use Exam Mode to type Hindi and English back to back, like the real Phase II.

Practise the 10-minute speed tests

Take the Hindi (400 words) and English (500 words) tests and see your correct words, net speed and every wrong word the moment you finish.

How marks are worked out

Marks = correct words x marks per word. Nothing is deducted for a wrong word.

PaperPassagePer correct word9 marks (minimum)25 marks (full)
Hindi speed400 words0.0625144 words (14.4 WPM)400 words (40 WPM)
English speed500 words0.05180 words (18 WPM)500 words (50 WPM)

Net speed on 91Typing = correct words / 10 minutes, so 14.4 WPM in Hindi and 18 WPM in English are exactly the 9-mark line.

Which words earn nothing

Your typing is compared word by word. A word earns marks only if it is exactly right.

MistakeExampleEffect
Wrong or misspelt wordTyping "vibhg" for "vibhag"No marks for that word
Wrong matra or half letterMissing a halant or a chandrabinduNo marks for that word
Capitalisation or punctuationTyping "rajasthan" for "Rajasthan"No marks for that word
Joined or split wordsTyping "rajyasarkar"No marks for either word
Extra wordTyping a word that is not in the passageNo marks, no deduction
Skipped wordLeaving a word outNo marks, no deduction

As reported. A skipped word earns nothing but costs nothing either - which is why the locked-word rule matters more than speed.

Worked example: an English paper that clears

The formula

Correct words = words typed - wrong words

Marks = correct words x 0.05

Pass = 9 marks or more

The attempt
Passage
500 words, 10 minutes
Words typed
260
Wrong words
22
Working it out
  1. Correct words260 - 22= 238
  2. Marks238 x 0.05= 11.9 / 25
  3. Net speed238 / 10= 23.8 WPM
  4. Minimum check11.9 against 9= clears
Qualified26 WPM typed with 22 wrong words still gives 11.9 marks.

TipEvery 20 extra correct words is one more mark - at 40 WPM with the same accuracy this paper would be worth about 18 marks.

Worked example: a Hindi paper that misses by four words

The formula

Correct words = words typed - wrong words

Marks = correct words x 0.0625

Pass = 9 marks (144 words) or more

The attempt
Passage
400 words, 10 minutes
Words typed
170
Wrong words
30
Working it out
  1. Correct words170 - 30= 140
  2. Marks140 x 0.0625= 8.75 / 25
  3. Net speed140 / 10= 14.0 WPM
  4. Minimum check8.75 against 9= falls short
Not qualified17 WPM typed, but 30 wrong words - mostly matras that could not be fixed after Space - leave 8.75 marks.

TipFour more correct words would have made it 9.0. In this exam a careful 15 WPM beats a careless 20.

The mistake that fails most candidates

Practising with full backspace. Candidates used to fixing words later press Space, notice the mistake - and cannot go back. The word is lost. Train yourself to check each word before the Space bar, and aim for 25+ WPM Hindi and 35+ WPM English with fewer than 10 wrong words, because Phase II marks decide your rank, not just your eligibility.

A four-week preparation plan

Four weeks to move from the 9-mark line to marks that lift your rank.

What to practise, and what to avoid

Habits that protect your marks under the locked-word rule.

Do this

  • Practise Hindi on DevLys 010 (Remington keys), the exam font.
  • Glance at each word before pressing Space - it cannot be fixed afterwards.
  • Keep going after a mistake - a lost word costs nothing, a lost minute costs many words.
  • Train both languages; 9 marks are needed in each paper.
  • Prepare the MS Word efficiency tasks: formatting, tables, headers, page setup.

Avoid this

  • Practising Hindi on InScript - the keys are completely different.
  • Relying on backspace to clean up a line after you finish it.
  • Stopping at the 9-mark line - Phase II marks count in the merit.
  • Pressing Ctrl or Alt shortcuts - they are disabled in the exam.

Frequently asked questions

What is the RSSB LDC typing speed required?

There is no fixed WPM. You need 9 of 25 marks in each speed paper: 144 correct words in the 10-minute Hindi test and 180 in the English test - about 14.4 WPM Hindi and 18 WPM English of correct words.

How are RSSB typing marks calculated?

Each correct word earns 0.0625 marks in Hindi (400-word passage) and 0.05 marks in English (500-word passage). Typing the whole passage correctly gives 25 marks.

Is there negative marking in the RSSB typing test?

No. A wrong or skipped word earns nothing, but nothing is deducted.

Is the typing test qualifying or counted in merit?

Counted. Phase II is worth 100 of 300 merit marks, and you also need at least 9 marks in every paper.

Can I use backspace in the RSSB typing test?

Only inside the word you are typing. Once you press Space or Enter, the previous word is locked.

Which Hindi font is used - DevLys, Kruti Dev or Mangal?

DevLys 010, a non-Unicode font on the Remington keyboard. Kruti Dev 010 has the same key positions; Mangal InScript does not.

Are both Hindi and English compulsory?

Yes. You take the speed and efficiency papers in both languages, four papers in all.

What is the efficiency test?

A 10-minute practical paper in each language, reported to cover MS Word formatting, tables, borders, headers and footers and page setup. It is worth 25 marks with the same 9-mark minimum. This practice covers the speed tests only.

Can I submit the speed test early?

No. The test runs the full 10 minutes. Keep typing - every extra correct word is worth marks.

Are disabled candidates exempt from Phase II?

Reportedly, eligible PwBD candidates under the Rajasthan Divyangjan rules are exempted and given marks based on Phase I. Check the advertisement for your category.

What speed should I aim for?

Aim for 25+ WPM Hindi and 35+ WPM English with fewer than 10 wrong words. That is roughly 15 and 17 marks - well above the minimum and useful for your rank.

Is this the official RSSB typing software?

No. 91Typing is an independent practice platform. It follows the reported rules - 10 minutes, 400 / 500-word passages, marks per correct word, locked words - so your practice reads the way the real test will.
