No free mistakes - every slip costs 10 words.
The Common Recruitment Examination (CRE) fills Group B and C posts across the AIIMS institutes and JIPMER. For Junior Administrative Assistant (LDC) and Upper Division Clerk / Senior Administrative Assistant, the skill test is a typing test on computer: 35 WPM in English or 30 WPM in Hindi.
The skill test is qualifying. What makes it hard is the marking: unlike SSC or RRB there is no error allowance, so every mistake comes straight off your speed.
From the CRE-2025 post-wise qualifications, plus how recent skill tests were run. Check the skill-test notice for your sitting.

Recent CRE tests switched off the help that older AIIMS tests gave you.
| Screen rule | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Layout | Passage on the upper half of the screen, typing box directly below it |
| Word highlighter | Off in recent CRE tests (earlier AIIMS tests had it) |
| Error highlighter | Off in recent CRE tests |
| Auto-scroll | Off in recent CRE tests - keep your own place |
| Backspace | Allowed - you can correct mistakes at any time |
| End of passage | Once you have typed as many words as the passage has, the space bar stops working - you cannot add extra words |
| Minimum to be marked | The required speed for the full time: about 1,750 keystrokes in English or 1,500 in Hindi in 10 minutes (2,625 / 2,250 when the test ran 15 minutes). Below that the attempt is an insufficient attempt |
The CRE notice does not describe the screen. These rules are from AIIMS skill-test instructions and recent CRE sittings as reported by candidates. Check the instructions on your test day.
Open the test settings on the typing screen and choose No highlighter, turn auto-scroll off and hide the live speed. Keep full backspace. Practising with green and red words trains you to rely on a signal that recent CRE tests did not give.
Take the test in English or Hindi, marked with the AIIMS 10-word penalty per mistake, and see your net speed and accuracy the moment you finish.
There is no free allowance. Each full mistake takes 50 keystrokes (10 words) off what you typed; a half mistake takes 25. In a 10-minute test that is a full 1 WPM per mistake - five mistakes cost 5 WPM. The minimum keystrokes are set at exactly the required speed, so you must type well above the minimum to have anything left after the deductions.
Every mistake is full (10 words) or half (5 words).
| Weight | Mistake | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Full | Omission | A word in the passage that you left out |
| Full | Wrong word | Typing "patients" where the passage reads "patient" |
| Full | Spelling | Typing "hospitel" for "hospital" |
| Full | Extra or repeated word | Typing "the the ward" |
| Half | Spacing | Typing "medicalcollege" |
| Half | Punctuation | A missing comma or an extra full stop |
| Half | Capitalisation | Typing "aiims" for "AIIMS" |
| Half | Transposition | Typing "college medical" for "medical college" |
Full / half classification as used in recent AIIMS skill tests, as reported. Capitalisation applies to English only.
Gross words = keystrokes / 5
Penalty = (full + half / 2) x 10 words
Net speed = (gross words - penalty) / minutes
Accuracy = net speed / gross speed x 100
TipThree more full mistakes would cost 30 more words and drop this attempt to 34.0 WPM - a fail. At AIIMS, a handful of slips is the whole margin.
Gross words = keystrokes / 5
Penalty = (full + half / 2) x 10 words
Net speed = (gross words - penalty) / minutes
Accuracy = net speed / gross speed x 100
TipWith 5 mistakes instead of 11, the same typing would give exactly 30.0 WPM and qualify. Every mistake avoided is worth a full WPM.
Practising until you can just reach 35 WPM (or 30) and stopping there. The minimum keystrokes equal the required speed, and with no error allowance even one mistake puts that attempt under the bar. You need a buffer of speed to pay for your mistakes. Aim for 42+ WPM English or 37+ Hindi with no more than 3-4 mistakes in a full test.
Hindi is reported to be typed on Mangal InScript. Some institutes have used other fonts in the past, so check your skill-test notice.

Small habits decide a no-allowance test. Keep the left column; drop the right.
Do this
Avoid this
Practise under the rules and the screen you will be marked on.
10 words per mistake, no allowance
Every run counts 5 keystrokes as a word, deducts 10 words per mistake and shows your accuracy as net / gross, like AIIMS.
No highlighter, no auto-scroll
Turn off highlighting and auto-scroll in the test settings to type on a plain screen, like recent CRE tests.
All on the exam dashboard
Your attempt history, weak keys and a replay of any past attempt are on the exam dashboard.

No. Every full mistake deducts 10 words (50 keystrokes) and every half mistake 5 words. There is no free 5% as in SSC or RRB.
Divide your keystrokes by 5 to get gross words, take off 10 words for each mistake (half mistakes count half), and divide by the minutes. Example: 2,100 keystrokes in 10 minutes = 420 words; 5 mistakes = 50 words; 370 / 10 = 37.0 WPM.
Net speed / gross speed x 100. In the English example above that is 37.0 / 42.0 = 88.1%.
Yes - the required speed for the full time. In a 10-minute test that is about 1,750 keystrokes in English and 1,500 in Hindi (2,625 and 2,250 when the test ran 15 minutes). Below that, the attempt is marked as an insufficient attempt and not evaluated.
Yes. You can correct mistakes at any time during the test.
Older AIIMS tests had it, but recent CRE tests switched off word highlighting, error highlighting and auto-scroll. Practise without them.
Once you have typed as many words as the passage contains, the space bar stops working, so you cannot add extra words.
Mangal InScript in recent tests, as reported. Some AIIMS branches have used Kruti Dev in the past, so check your skill-test notice.
Yes. It is a qualifying test for these posts; you must meet the speed to be selected.
10 words. In a 10-minute test that is a full 1 WPM of net speed; in a 15-minute test it is about 0.67 WPM.
Aim for 42+ WPM in English or 37+ in Hindi with no more than 3-4 mistakes in a full test, typing on a plain screen.
No. 91Typing is an independent practice platform. It follows the reported AIIMS marking - 5 keystrokes a word, 10 words per mistake, accuracy as net / gross - so your practice reads the way the real test will.
